Congressmen Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, and Jim Matheson (D-Utah), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, have introduced the Consumer Privacy Protection Act of 2011. The bill would require covered entities to disclose to consumers in clear and easy to understand language what personal information will be collected and how the information will be used; the bill also provides incentives for self-regulation.
