The Federal Trade Commission has released a final program for its September workshop, “Big Data: A Tool for Inclusion or Exclusion?” During the workshop, speakers with a wide range of experience and expertise in the privacy field will present on the various issues and opportunities that arise from the relationship between big data and consumers. The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and run throughout the day on September 15, 2014 at the Constitution Center, located at 400 7th St SW, Washington, DC 20024.

9:15 a.m. ET: Presentation: Framing the Conversation

9:30 a.m. ET: Panel 1: “Assessing the Current Environment” – a review of the various ways in which big data is currently used, as well as its present effects on consumers.

11:00 a.m. ET: Panel 2: “What’s on the Horizon with Big Data?” – a discussion of some potential uses for big data, as well as positive and negative impacts they may have on different consumer populations.

1:30 p.m. ET: Presentation: Digging into the Data

1:45 p.m. ET: “Surveying the Legal Landscape” – an examination of antidiscrimination and consumer protection laws, their application to big data, and potential gaps in the current regulatory regime.

3:15 p.m. ET: “Mapping the Path Forward” – a look at best practices for big data from a consumer protection perspective.
